In the news article 2016: The Year Change Came to Social Media, the authors explained the six factors that affected the outcome of the 2016 Philippine election. The first of the six factors is fake news. The article suggests that it can affect the reputation of the candidates. In addition it also has serious consequences that can influence knowledge, opinion, and political trust. The second factor is news that is unsubstantiated.  The write-up lists instances where unconfirmed posts of public officials are spread which results to misinforming the public about certain issues. The third factor is hatred; it emphasizes on some journalists who were harassed and threatened online by strangers because of their opinions. The fourth factor is social media as game changer for election results. The column points out why social media can greatly influence people’s perception over someone. The fifth factor is social media accounts and pages as filter bubble. The feature implies that continued consumption of bias pages and groups prevented users from seeing both sides of the story. The last factor is alternative media. The piece identifies that alternative media has made popular to the public because of independence and it can be a provider of information.

The news article from ABS-CBN made me realize how small things can change the outcome of something big. It is evident during the 2016 Philippine election. Most of the elected candidates influenced voters through the image they created in social media. It is very important for them to use social media to their advantage. Moreover, the details in the text showed how citizens can easily react and get carried away by the information they consume. People actively seek for what is right but is hindered by the diversity of accurate and inaccurate information available. It is best to be vigilant so that we are aware of the things happening around our society. 

Overall, the article is excellent and well written. The details in the text are supported based on facts. Also, most of the examples are scenarios and events that happen in real life. It is interesting to read because the content is sensible. The authors were on a neutral stance on the way they presented the data. Their main intention was to give fair and square information regarding the changes that happened across social media. In addition, the article also contained relevant images related to the topic. The news is effective in sharing information to the public.
